How can I find out more about the funeral cover benefit? Is it for real?

SureBüddy's funeral cover policy is underwritten by African Unity Life Limited (www.africanunity.co.za), trusted provider of life insurance in South Africa (FSP. 8447).

How many screen replacements are sponsored?

Even though SureBüddy is your buddy, we cannot cover the costs of repetative screen claims.  Please refer to your "Confirmation of Benefits" Certificate to confirm the number of screen replacements your Büddy will cover.

What must my beneficiary of the funeral cover do to claim?

If you need to claim the funeral cover benefit, all that has to be done is that a claim should be registered on the SureBüddy app or on www.surebuddy.com. After pre-authorisation, a representative from African Unity Life Limited will be in contact.

How do I register a claim for the funeral cover benefit if I don't have access to the internet?

You can go to any internet café, or any location with free Wi-Fi. To claim go to www.surebuddy.com or call the number indicated in your "Confirmation of Cover" Certificate you received the first time you succesfully registered as a Büddy.

Android permissions required during installation of SureBüddy

You will be asked to authorise SureBüddy access to certain features on your phone.  SureBüddy will not abuse any of the permissions.  SureBüddy needs the permissions to monitor the events so that the advertisements can be displayed at the agreed times.

Why am I unable to install SureBuddy?

The SureBüddy app will work on any Android phone: Mobicell, Samsung, Boost, Huawei, LG and some HTC and Sony devices. Later model Blackberries with Android will also work. If you have an Android smartphone you are unable to install SureBüddy please dial +2711 594 1400. Please enter your mobile number followed by the # key and SureBüddy will phone you to assist.

Why is SureBüddy free?

All the costs are paid for by the advertisers. So you never pay SureBüddy. Just keep watching the advertisements every month and SureBüddy costs you nothing.

Will the advertisements be annoying?

No. And for once you will be rewarded for watching advertisements. After a call comes to an end, or an SMS is received, you will see all the exciting offers right there in your hand. Simply touch the phone screen or any of the buttons to remove the ad immediately. SureBüddy is also optimised to consume very little battery life.

Does SureBüddy consume much data?

We have optimised the app so that it does not use much data. You can expect it to use between 6 – 8 megabyte per month. It will also download over a Wi-Fi connection when possible.

How will I know whether SureBüddy is active on my phone?

The SureBüddy app runs in the background when not in use. Nothing will change on your phone. You will see the advertisements on your screen once you finish a call, or when you receive an SMS.

How can I find out more about the screen replacement benefit? Is it for real?

SureBüddy uses great repair centers such to provide you with premium care.  On claiming the benefit when your screen accidentally broke, you will be contacted with all the relevant details.  Furthermore, the benefit will always be available to you, you just need to view the qualifying advertisments.

My screen just broke and I need to claim?

If you need to repair your screen, all you have to do is register a claim from the SureBüddy app or on www.surebuddy.com. After pre-authorisation, go straight to the authorised repair center and they will assist you. SureBüddy covers screen replacement only. If there is any additional work needed, it is for your personal account.

How do I claim my screen replacement benefit if I don't have access to the internet?

You can go to any internet café, or any location with free Wi-Fi. To claim go to www.surebuddy.com.  You will also find the correct number to call on your "Confirmation of Cover" certificate you received when you registered the first time as a Büddy.

How do I know if I still qualify for the SureBüddy benefits?

If SureBüddy is active on your phone, and you watch the required number of advertisements, you will be eligible for the benefits.  If you have the latest version of SureBüddy on your phone, there is an indicator in the app that shows whether you have watched enough advertisements up to now, on average.  If your average advertisements are below the number required every day for you to receive the benefit, SureBüddy will launch a few additional adverts a day to give you peace of mind.

SureBüddy™ Sponsored Funeral Cover

You hereby grant AxMe (Pty) Ltd (“SureBüddy™”, "we" or "us") the right to flight advertisements on your mobile phone for short periods of time after terminating phone calls.

In exchange, we will arrange funeral cover, namely, SureBüddy™ Sponsored Funeral Cover, for you with African Unity Life Limited (a registered long-term insurer) ("the insurer") so that upon your death, your nominated beneficiary (or your deceased estate, if no nomination is made) will receive a cash sum of up to R8,000, subject to the terms and conditions set out below. 

Information obtained during registration will be used to empower advertisers, hence this is an ‘opt-in’ program.

You agree and acknowledge that you have no contract or any contractual relationship with the insurer and consequently you (including your nominated beneficiary) do not acquire any direct or other right against the insurer.  Rather, you stand in a contractual relationship only with us.

SureBüddy™ will utilise its own resources to pay the insurance premium due to the insurer on the life of the registered owner of the Ad Enabled Phone.

Period

We will advertise on your phone from the date on which you install the SureBüddy™ application ("App") up to the date on which the application is deleted or uninstalled or the date on which the phone (for whatever reason) is no longer used by the originally registered person of this programme, whichever date occurs first.

The basis of the contract is this arrangement entered into between us, SureBüddy™ and you the registrant on this programme.

The agreement becomes effective after confirmation that the registration has been successfully completed via the SureBüddy™ App.

Benefits for Ad Enabled Phone

The funeral cover is dependent upon the advertising revenue generated by SureBüddy™ through your Ad Enabled Phone. At each monthly anniversary of the install date of the SureBüddy™ application on your phone, we will review the number of advertisements you’ve watched on your phone. If you have reached the set targets, you will qualify for cover for the next monthly anniversary date of the installation. A minimum number of 180 advertisements should be viewed in the previous monthly cycle in order to qualify for the full cover for the next month. For the first month (determined from the install date of the SureBüddy™ application to the monthly anniversary date), only 6 advertisements per day will count towards the determination of the minimum requirement of 180 advertisements. Please note that you will not receive any cover within the first month, as the viewing of advertisements by you in the first month is in order to receive cover in the second month.

Accidental death – from the second monthly cycle to the end of the fourth monthly cycle your cover will be limited to accidental death only.  An accidental death happens purely by chance.  Hence, death from any natural causes is excluded for determination of the benefit.

Accidental death and natural death due to unknown reasons – from the fourth monthly cycle to the seventh monthly cycle, you will enjoy full cover, except where the cause of death results from a critical illness that you knew about at the date of entering into this agreement (as warranted by you in the warranties clause).

Full benefits – after month seven until you reach the age of 65 years, you will have a full benefit, provided that you continue to view the minimum required advertisements each month.  After 65 years of age the benefit will be reduced to zero again.

Where the minimum required advertisements have not been viewed for 2 consecutive months, the benefit value is reduced to zero and the same set of rules apply as from the first installation date of the SureBüddy™ application. It is important to maintain your subscription status by viewing the required number of advertisements so that you can enjoy all the benefits all the time.

The benefit is only available for individuals ordinarily resident in Republic of South Africa.

SureBüddy™ has the right to adjust the minimun number of advertisements from 180 to any reasonable minimum number of advertisements to ensure that the benefit can be provided to you.

Beneficiary nomination

You need to notify us on www.surebuddy.com, from your SureBüddy™ App or on 011-594 1400 of your preferred beneficiary.  Should you not do this, your deceased estate will be the beneficiary of the benefit.

Validation of benefit

We will confirm that the benefit is due to you by comparing the phone MSISDN / IMEI number with your registered telephone number and your identity / passport number.  This is to ensure that we contribute towards the counterpart of this advertising rental agreement only.

In order to benefit from the funeral cover benefit SureBüddy™ acquired, you will have to die and your deceased estate will have to comply with the claims requirements of the insurance policy SureBüddy™ acquired.

Warranties

You warrant that you are:

  • Older than 18 years of age and younger than 65 years of age when you enter this programme.
  • Are in good health and that to the best of your knowledge, you do not have an illness, such as heart conditions, cancer and diabetes, that will lead to the event of an early death.

If you cannot warrant the above you must uninstall the SureBüddy™ application.

No benefit to you

The value of benefit will be reduced to Zero if:

  • You commit suicide;
  • You are a participant in any of the following: (1)  any act of war (whether war is declared or not), (2) military action, (3) riot, (4) insurrection, (5) civil commotion, (6) usurpation (take over) of power (7) martial law (8) terrorism or (9) any unlawful act.
  • If any of the warranties are found to be inaccurate for a period of 6 months after the initial conclusion of this contract.

No Financial Advice

No financial advice was given to you as part of this agreement to explain the benefits / cover under the agreement.  Should you wish to obtain financial advice about financial services products, you have to contact your own financial advisor.

It is also agreed that the  insurance cover arranged by SureBüddy™, is in addition to any other insurance cover you might already have.

Termination

Both parties (i.e. we and you) are entitled to cancel this agreement at any time without written notice and without any recourse, financial or otherwise.

You may cancel this agreement by uninstalling the App from your phone.

Procedure to claim your benefit:

As soon as possible after your death, but not longer than 3 month thereafter, your nominated beneficiary and/or next of kin have to notify us by registering to claim your benefit at www.surebuddy.com, from the SureBüddy™ App or on 011-594 1400.  If the notification is later than 3 month, the benefit under this rental agreement will be reduced zero.

You accept that you are hereby limiting your right of privacy, to facilitate the assessment of the risk, and the consideration of any claim for benefits under this agreement.

You irrevocably authorise SureBüddy™ or any of its agents to obtain from any doctor or any other person, including other insurers and any associations of such insurers whom you hereby so authorise and request to give, any information which SureBüddy™ deems necessary, at any time (even after your death) and is such detailed, abbreviated or coded form as may from time to time be decided by SureBüddy™ or any of its agents.

Documentation to be submitted when claiming your benefit

The Insurer, any of its agents will after initial validation contact you and request:

  • A legible claim form completed and signed (download from the website).
  • A copy of your South African identity document / passport.

The following documents will be required after your death:

  • A certified copy of an official death certificate issued by the Department of Home Affairs
  • Details of the deceased estate, which is the ultimate beneficiary of the product benefit, including the banking details for the payment of the benefit.
  • Document BL1663 / DHA-1663 or BL-1680 / DHA1663, containing details of medical practitioner, funeral parlour and cause of death.
  • South African Police report / accident report form, stamped by the Police / a full report from registered medical practitioner in the case of unnatural death.
  • Your bank statement.
